The PA1-73013 antibody reacts with Streptococcus pneumoniae types 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 14, 18, 19 & 23. The antiserum was not absorbed and may react with related microorganisms.
PA1-73013 has been successfully used in Immunofluorescence and ELISA applications.
The PA1-73013 antibody was raised against a Streptotcoccus serotype whole-cell blend of numerous serotypes.
Recommended short term storage, up to 6 months, is liquid at 4ºC. For longer term storage, aliquot and freeze.
There are more than 85 antigenic types of S. pneumoniae, which are determined by capsule antigens. Altough S. pneumoniae is part of the normal respiratory flora, invasion commonly results in pneumonia as well as meningitis. S. pneumoniae is protected from phagocytosis by its polysaccharide capsule which is also a prominent virulence factor. Infections can usually be treated with antibiotics, although resistant strains are emerging.
