Cloud Services Now Available for SampleManager LIMS Software

Thermo Fisher Scientific is proud to launch Thermo Scientific™ SampleManager LIMS™ software cloud services.  This new deployment option enables SampleManager LIMS software customers to benefit from one of the world’s most deployed LIMS, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and managed by Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science. SampleManager LIMS software helps laboratories across all industries drive productivity, ensure compliance, streamline processes, and improve organizational efficiency.

“Life science and industrial laboratories are increasingly adopting a cloud-first approach to enterprise-wide LIMS implementation,” said Richard Milne, vice president and general manager of Digital Science at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “However, managing deployments to a laboratory’s own cloud hosting service can be a costly and resource-intensive process. We have developed the new cloud services to alleviate this burden and enable SampleManager LIMS software customers to use the system’s superior functionality and integration capabilities without having to invest significant resources into the setup and ongoing management of a cloud environment.”

In addition to the benefits of SampleManager LIMS software, the new cloud services option offers:

  • Compliance to 21 CFR Part 11 and GDPR, developed following GAMP 5 supplier best practices and ready to support GxP or CAP/CLIA regulated laboratories
  • A fully managed service available across the globe in select AWS Regions
  • Enhanced security, scalability, access and performance
  • Backup and recovery services leveraging comprehensive AWS infrastructure

With a cloud services deployment, laboratories will retain control over the software upgrades and validation schedule, while taking advantage of unlimited and secure access to data from anywhere at any time. Furthermore, AWS Cloud deployment will enable unparalleled levels of scalability to meet evolving business needs.

Raising the Bar on Security

The cloud services offering has been designed to provide optimal data security and protection. In addition to the security features available through standard AWS Cloud deployments, Thermo Fisher also implements its own robust Corporate Information Security (CIS) program. The CIS program outlines additional measures in line with security-by-design principles to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of data. The program requires use of additional security services like Turbot Cloud Security Guardrail, Trend Micro™ Intrusion Prevention System, Netsparker™ Vulnerability Scanner, and more.

Flexible Deployment Options

SampleManager LIMS software delivers laboratory management, data management (SDMS) and process execution/procedural ELN (LES) capabilities in a single solution. Three different deployment models are now available to meet your infrastructure needs:

  • On Premises – this is the traditional deployment model where the LIMS software is installed using the customer’s infrastructure.  The customer is responsible for all hardware in this model.
  • Customer Managed Cloud – in this model, software is installed in the customer’s own private cloud and managed by the customer.
  • Cloud Services – in this model, the customer contracts with Thermo Fisher Scientific to manage deployment of SampleManager LIMS software using AWS Cloud.
