Podcast: Technology breakthrough in industrial gas analysis

Worker exposure to low-level toxins in ambient air is an increasing concern around the world. A disruptive new technique, called optically enhanced Fourier transform infrared (OE-FTIR) analysis, provides new capabilities in industrial gas analysis to meet such concerns.

OE-FTIR analysis provides enhanced gas detection sensitivity that rivals or exceeds that of traditional gas chromatography (GC). It also brings all the analytical advantages of traditional FTIR analysis such as real-time results, a wide dynamic range, and low maintenance and ownership costs.

Inside the interview:

In this podcast, Benita Mehta, Chief Editor of Industrial Safety and Hygiene News (ISHN), interviews Kelly McPartland, Applications Manager with the Gas Analysis Solutions group within Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Topics covered include:

  • Industry needs related to increasing regulation around ambient air quality
  • New OE-FTIR  industrial gas analysis technology vs traditional techniques like gas chromatography (GC)
  • Capabilities of older and newer techniques for samples needing less sensitivity
  • What to think about when asking for a factory integrated system
  • Translating new capabilities to budgets
