Sequencing

Ion Torrent next-generation sequencing

 

Ion Torrent technology combines massively parallel semiconductor chip sequencing with natural chemistry to directly translate chemical information into digital data. Course topics include library construction, template preparation, sequence generation, and data analysis.

Sanger sequencing & fragment analysis

 

Applied Biosystems genetic analyzers for DNA sequencing and fragment analysis applications feature proven capillary electrophoresis technology and utilize our high-quality capillaries, polymers, and BigDye Terminator chemistry.  Course topics include workflow setup and optimization, instrument familiarization, preparing and running samples and standards, data analysis software, and troubleshooting.

PCR-based applications

PCR-based applications are essential to many laboratory workflows and techniques including gene expression analysis, cloning, absolute quantification, genotyping, DNA sequencing, pathogen detection and quantification, protein analysis and pharmacogenomics. High-content screening

Laser capture microdissection

 

Laser capture microdissection (LCM) is an automated sample preparation technique that enables isolation of specific cells from a mixed population under microscopic visualization. Courses cover tissue sample preparation, LCM, RNA isolation from captured cells, and RNA amplification from nanogram quantities.

Bioinformatics

Modern biology generates massive quantities of big data; bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data. Course topics include Ion AmpliSeq Designer, data management strategies, Ion Torrent plug-ins, and Torrent Variant Caller for primary and secondary analysis interpretation.

Microarray

Microarray technology enables an opportunity to perform high resolution whole genome analyses in large study sizes with complex samples. The genetics of complex traits, discovery of biomarkers, and determination DNA variation are some of the application areas that can be advanced with microarray analysis. Course topics range from experimental design and assays and laboratory workflows through to data analysis pipelines.

Protein biology

Sample prep

KingFisher Sample Purification Systems serve a variety of applications: from SARS-CoV-2 and other viral/pathogen nucleic acid testing, to genomic DNA for genetic testing and the isolation cell-free DNA from liquid biopsies the KingFisher automates the isolation in multi-well format of diagnostic and biological targets (e.g. nucleotides, proteins, whole cells) using magnetic bead technology.  Course topics include instrument training on the KingFisher Sample Purification Systems and sample preparation training for automated extraction and purification of DNA, RNA, proteins, and cells.
