Scholarship FAQs

Have a question about applying for the antibody scholarship? Please review our frequently asked questions to get answers. You can also review the Scholarship Official Rules if you have questions about eligibility, etc. If you’re questions are not answered here, please email AntibodyScholarship@thermofisher.com and a member of the Antibody Scholarship Team will be happy to help.

  • I am having difficulty submitting my application. Why is this happening?

The application form works best using Chrome or Firefox. If you are using another browser, try using one of the recommended browsers.
If you change browsers and are still having an issue, make sure you are using only the approved file types and size for attachments (pdf, PowerPoint, word (.doc NOT .docx), rtf, text, images (jpg, png, jpeg, and gif) and no file can be any bigger than 10MB.
  • I am a high school graduate from Chile planning to study in the USA. I would like to know if I am eligible for the scholarship, or if it is only open to US Citizens.

International students possessing the appropriate documentation to study within the United States are eligible for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship Program. Please submit an application on our website before the published application deadline.
  • Where should my materials be sent so that I can be considered for your scholarship?

Please submit an application on our website before the published application deadline and attach your supporting documents. Supporting documents can also be emailed to AntibodyScholarship@thermofisher.com.
  • I am currently a freshman and will be applying for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship Award. The deadline for this award's applications is well before my enrollment for my sophomore year. So, while I am an incoming freshman and will be when I applying I am not sure if the term freshman only applies for those who would be getting ready to enroll for their freshman year.

Please submit an application under the category which will fit your enrollment at the beginning of the semester for which the scholarship is being awarded. An incoming freshman or a freshman with one semester completed will apply as a freshman. If you have completed your first two semesters of college, you would apply as a sophomore. The scholarship committee understands that students may not have updated GPAs or class schedules for the upcoming semester by the deadline. This will be taken into consideration when reviewing your application.
  • Is this scholarship available to graduating high school seniors or only to students currently enrolled in college?

The scholarship is open to any student who will be attending an accredited university or college in the United States for the semester in which the scholarship is being offered. This can be full-time or part-time students.
  • Since I have not started college yet, I will have a high school transcript only, but no college transcript. Is there anything I should substitute for the college transcript? Also, do I need to wait for my final transcript to apply, or is it better to wait until then?

We do not require official transcripts for the application process. Our scholarship committee does not review applications until after the deadline. However, completing an application well in advance of the deadline will allow you to avoid any last-minute issues with a submission failure or internet outage. If awarded a scholarship you will be required to submit an official transcript information at that time. For an incoming freshman winner, we would require that you send us an official copy of your high school transcript and the acceptance letter to your chosen university.
  • I am a graduate student entering the candidacy stage of my PhD program. During the award period of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship, I will be completing my research and dissertation. With my course credits completed and my tuition bill very small, I need funding to live on (a stipend). My university and research group do not offer funding for PhD students completing their degrees. Can this scholarship be used to pay students a stipend?

The scholarship award money is sent directly to the award winner’s college or university, who will then determine how the money can be used. We advise that you speak with your financial aid department to determine how they would dispense the award money.
  • I will not have an undergraduate GPA score since in Europe GPAs are not determined. I will however have a translated form of my undergraduate transcript with the explanation of the grading system. Will that be accepted with my application?

A translated form of your undergraduate transcript with the explanation of the grading system will be fine for the application process. If you’re selected as an award winner, you will need to submit an official copy of your transcript in its original form.

  • Are there any specifics for the letters of recommendation? How many are needed?
There are no limitations for letters of recommendation submitted on your behalf, although many students submit 1 to 3 recommendations. They can be attached to your application or emailed to AntibodyScholarship@thermofisher.com.

  • I will begin my graduate studies in the current scholarship period. In the application, one of the required fields is Graduate School GPA. What should I put in that field? Moreover, I will be attending a graduate school that does pass/fail grading.

Students should apply under the application that fits their enrollment at the beginning of the semester for which the scholarship is being awarded. Since you will be a graduate student, please apply under this category. Please write “N/A” in the GPA field. The scholarship committee understands that students may not have updated GPAs or class schedules by the deadline. This will be taken into consideration when reviewing applications. If you’re selected as an award winner, we will review your official transcript that is “pass/fail.”

  • Is the Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship decided on a rolling basis?

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship Program is not awarded on a rolling basis. All applications are reviewed after the published deadline. The scholarship committee is looking for well-rounded students with a passion for science who best fit one or more of Sponsor’s values of Integrity, Intensity, Innovation or Involvement, as demonstrated by the application.

  • What are the attributes that you are looking for in a strong candidate for the scholarship?

The scholarship committee is looking for well-rounded students with a passion for science who best fit one or more of Sponsor’s values of Integrity, Intensity, Innovation or Involvement, as demonstrated by the application.

  • I'd like to apply for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship and was wondering if the application materials submitted are kept confidential, as I wanted to upload some submitted but unpublished work.

Yes, the application materials are kept confidential. Only the scholarship committee sees the application material, and information is kept confidential among them.

  • Are there any rules against students receiving the Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship at the same time that they are receiving other scholarship money or a school-related salary? For example, if I received a $5000 Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship, it would be enough to cover my tuition. Could I then also be paid as a research assistant or through other scholarship money that I've been awarded by my department?

The winners of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship are selected based on merit, not financial need. We have no official rules stating that the winners cannot have other sources of financial aid, such as scholarships or work study.

  • I am currently working on a research project and would like to submit an abstract for supporting materials in lieu of a poster for this scholarship. Approximately how long should I make this abstract?

Your abstract should be no more than 5 pages.
