Analysis of Micro Layers with FTIR Microscopy
Speaker: Andrew Schmitz, Application Scientist
Duration: 23 minutes
For many products, what’s underneath the surface can make the difference between success and failure. Materials such as food packaging, flooring, and automotive paint consist of multiple layers with different chemical compositions that are less than 100 microns in thickness. Each layer has its purpose—from maintaining freshness to preventing environmental damage and even quality control. The Nicolet RaptIR FTIR Microscope provides simplified, non-destructive analysis of micro layers. Its powerful capabilities can benefit applications of all types, such as reverse engineering, improvement of synthetic goods, and forensics, to name a few.
In this talk, we’ll look at the advantages of using the Nicolet RaptIR Microscope to identify and map out micro layers. Topics covered will include how to generate different area and line maps, set up chemical profiles, and overlay profiles on a video image for comparison.
