Extracting DNA is an important laboratory process because DNA can be used to diagnose genetic diseases, solve crimes, and more. The extracted DNA can be used for experiments such as gel electrophoresis, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) sequencing, or cloning. To ensure experiments function properly, a sample’s DNA concentration must be determined and contaminants must not be present in the sample. A simple method to quantitate nucleic acid is with UV-Vis spectrophotometry.
