The Progesterone Metabolites Competitive ELISA quantitates progesterone metabolites in serum, plasma, urine, saliva, dried fecal extracts or cell culture medium.|Principle of the method: The Progesterone Metabolites Competitive ELISA research-use-only kit is designed to quantitatively measure progesterone metabolites independent of species. A progesterone metabolites standard is provided to generate a standard curve for the assay and all samples are read off a user-generated standard curve. Standards or diluted samples are pipetted into a clear microtiter plate coated with anti-rabbit IgG antibodies. Anti-rabbit progesterone metabolites antibodies and progesterone metabolites-peroxidase conjugate is added to the wells. The progesterone metabolites-peroxidase conjugate and any progesterone metabolites in the sample will compete to bind to the anti-rabbit progesterone metabolites antibodies. After incubation, the plate is washed and substrate is added. The substrate reacts with the bound progesterone metabolites-peroxidase conjugate. After a 30 min incubation, the reaction is stopped and the intensity of the generated color is detected in a microtiter plate reader at 450 nm. The intensity of the generated color corresponds inversely to the amount of progesterone metabolites present in the sample.|Rigorous validation: Each manufactured lot of this ELISA kit is quality tested for criteria such as sensitivity, specificity, precision, and lot-to-lot consistency. See manual for more information on validation.
Progesterone, C21H30O2, also known as P4 (pregn-4-ene-3,20-dione) is a C-21 steroid hormone involved in the female menstrual cycle, gestation and embryogenesis of humans and other species. Progesterone belongs to a class of hormones called progestogens and is the major naturally occurring human progestogen. Progesterone is an essential regulator of human female reproductive function in the uterus, ovary, mammary gland and brain, and plays an important role in non-reproductive tissues such as the cardiovascular system, bone and the central nervous system.
