Rat IFN-beta ELISA Kit quantifies IFN beta in serum and plasma.
The Rat IFN-beta solid-phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is designed to measure the amount of the target bound between a matched antibody pair. A target-specific antibody has been pre-coated in the wells of the supplied microplate. Samples are then added into these wells and bind to the immobilized (capture) antibody. The sandwich is formed by the binding of the second (detector) antibody to the target on a different epitope from the capture antibody. An antibody conjugated with enzyme binds the formed sandwich. After incubation and washing steps to rid the microplate of unbound substances.
Rigorous validation:
Each manufactured lot of this ELISA kit is quality tested for criteria such as sensitivity, specificity, precision, and lot-to-lot consistency. See manual for more information on validation.

Type I Interferons (IFN-alpha/beta) are produced primarily in response to viral infection by Natural IFN-producing cells (IPCs) as part of the host immune response. IFNs can also inhibit the development of tumors. IFN-beta binding results in the activation of the tyrosine kinases Jak1 and Tyk2, phosphorylation of members of the STAT family of transcription factors, and the transcription and expression of the immune response genes. More recently, several members of the toll-like receptor (TLR) family were found to stimulate the production IFN-beta. IFN-beta is currently used clinically for treatment of tumors, infections and multiple sclerosis.
