Food and beverage development from concept to research and development and through commercialization is nuanced and complex. Quality control and analysis of foods and beverages cover the ability to assess sensory attributes, nutritional components, and chemical compositions of ingredients, contaminants, and the final food product to make the product healthier, cleaner, and safer.
UV-Vis Spectroscopy is an analytical technique widely used in the food and beverage industry. This presentation covers many of the applications this technology can be used for in R&D labs and manufacturing QA/QC workflows. We present how Thermo Scientific Evolution and GENESYS spectrophotometers enable food and beverage scientists to characterize their samples. UV-Vis spectroscopy can give food and beverage scientists a wide range of information about their product, including the color of their beverage, how much glucose is present in their sample, the purity of their product, or whether their product has been adulterated.
