Optimize environmental analysis of airborne contaminants

Relying solely on time-consuming, off-site testing labs is simply too risky when personal and public safety is at stake. Whether you need to analyze lead dust wipes to determine the spread of contamination, analyze air filters to help protect workers from airborne exposure to high levels of pollutants, or prevent exposure to asbestos, Thermo Scientific Niton XRF analyzers and Thermo Scientific microPHAZIR analyzers can provide immediate, definitive and defensible results.

Featured airborne contaminant monitoring applications

Dust analysis

Dust

The ability to analyze dust wipes in the field gives lead and environmental professionals distinct advantages, from expedited results for elevated blood-lead (EBL) investigations, to verifying the integrity of containment systems, to post-abatement clearance testing. The rapid results provided by XRF analysis enable environmental professionals to make specific recommendations while still on-site, providing an extra layer of protection for demolition and renovation professionals who are particularly vulnerable to inhaling contaminated dust.

  • Guide lead abatement cleaning activities
  • Prevent clearance test failures
  • Expedite post-abatement re-occupancy
Asbestos analysis

Asbestos

Identification and abatement of asbestos is a growing concern for environmental agencies, manufacturers and local communities. Inspectors need to quickly assess, qualify and report the presence of asbestos at demolition and renovation sites, as well as in manufactured goods, to reduce the risk of human exposure. Typical lab analysis can add time and expense to the identification process.

Reduce the risk of asbestos exposure with instant, on-the-spot screening using the Thermo Scientific microPHAZIR AS Analyzer. The handheld microPHAZIR AS analyzer uses the power of near-infrared spectroscopy to accurately—and instantly—identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) on-site, where it matters most.

  • Avoid costly delays waiting for lab results
  • Streamline the inspection process without compromising accuracy
  • Accurately ID all six types of regulated asbestos fibers
Air filters

Air Filters

Ensure the safety of workers and the environment by using Niton XRF analyzers to measure air filters. Contractors, industrial hygienists, and regulators rely on our handheld analyzers to meet the requirements of NIOSH Method 7702 for analysis of 37 mm personal air-monitoring filters, which are used in monitoring worker exposure to airborne lead, as well as OSHA’s companion Method ID-204.

  • Real-time lead-level monitoring
  • Protect worker health and the environment
  • Maximize productivity, minimize costs
Drywall analysis

Drywall

Builders, homeowners, and inspectors need fast, reliable testing tools to rapidly identify homes and offices affected by potentially hazardous drywall. With the proven ability to quickly sort drywall based on elemental concentration, portable Niton XRF analyzers are particularly advantageous for drywall screening. Niton analyzers can easily identify strontium, the leading indicator for defective drywall testing, according to the U.S. EPA and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) studies, as well as other potential culprits, including iron and sulfur.

In support of the CPSC, the U.S. EPA compared Chinese drywall samples with drywall samples manufactured in the United States using Niton XRF analyzers. The results showed that elemental differences between the Chinese drywall samples and U.S. samples were clearly identifiable.

  • Completely nondestructive analysis
  • Instant results on-site
  • Accurately ID elements associated with reactive drywall
