Antoni Gual is a psychiatrist, Emeritus Researcher at IDIBAPS, and former Head of the Addictions Unit at the Neurosciences Institute, Clinic Hospital, University of Barcelona, Spain, and also acts as Alcohol Consultant at the Health Department of Catalonia. He has coordinated several EU funded projects in the field of addictions and has also been PI of several pharmacological clinical trials. He has published more than 150 articles in peer reviewed journals and edited several books. He has participated in several EU funded studies focusing on Brief Interventions, including Far Seas, a recent project that focusses in FASD at a European level. He is Vicepresident of the International Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol Problems (INEBRIA), past-President of the European Federation of Addiction Scientific Societies (EUFAS) and past-President of the Spanish Scientific Society for the Study of Alcohol and Alcoholism.

Anders Helander received his PhD in biochemistry and physiology at Uppsala University in 1988. In 1989, he started a new alcohol diagnostic laboratory facility at the Center for Addictive Diseases, Stockholm County Council, and ran it until 2010 when it was incorporated into the Karolinska University Laboratory, where he still works part-time. From 1992 to 2020 he covered several roles and responsibilities like associate professor in biochemical alcohol research at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience and associate professor in addiction research at the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet (KI), responsible for the analysis of alcohol biomarkers in the WHO/ISBRA Study on State and Trait Markers of Alcohol Use and Dependence, chairman of the IFCC Working Group on international standardization of the alcohol biomarker carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT).

Anders Helander has published more than 200 original publications and several reviews and book chapters on the development, analysis, clinical and forensic applications, and standardization of laboratory tests for alcohol, traditional drugs of abuse, and NPS.
