Description: Human IL-6 (also known as B Cell Stimulating Factor BCSF, BSF-2) is a ~21-28 kDa factor produced by a variety of cell types including monocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells. Upon stimulation, macrophages, T, B, mast, glial cells, eosinophils, keratinocytes and granulocytes also secrete IL-6. This pleiotrophic cytokine influences antigen-specific immune response, inflammatory response, and the development of neurons and is a major mediator of the acute phase reaction.
Applications Reported: Human IL-6 RSG ELISA Lyophilized Standard has been reported for use in the Human IL-6 ELISA RSG (Product # 88-7066).
Applications Tested: The intended use of the Human IL-6 RSG ELISA Lyophilized Standard is as a standard for the Human IL-6 ELISA (Product # 88-7066-86). Typically the standard is run in a series of 7 doubling dilutions from the 'top' standard. Please refer to the Certificate of Analysis included with each ELISA set for instructions on the proper reconstitution and dilution of the lyophilized standard.
Note: These are single-use vials. Use one time within 4 hours of reconstitution and discard. Reconstitute and dilute as suggested in the Certificate of Analysis or recovery may not be accurate.
Source: E. coli expressed amino acids Pro 29-Met 212 of mature human IL-6 accession # AF372214.
IL-6 is a gene that encodes a cytokine that plays a role in inflammation and the maturation of B cells. The protein produced by this gene is an endogenous pyrogen that can induce fever in people with autoimmune diseases or infections. The gene is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, where it is secreted into the serum and induces a transcriptional inflammatory response through interleukin 6 receptor, alpha. The functioning of this gene is implicated in a wide variety of inflammation-associated disease states, including suspectibility to diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Elevated levels of the encoded protein have been found in virus infections, including COVID-19 (disease caused by SARS-CoV-2). Diseases associated with IL6 include Kaposi Sarcoma and Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Juvenile.
