Traditional feeding supplements require a compromise between working volume and feeding space in your bioreactor. Not anymore. Now you can overcome the conventional solubility limitations of fed-batch cell culture and achieve superior performance while minimizing risk.
Gibco EfficientFeed A+, B+, and C+ feeding supplements deliver super-concentrated nutrients in a complete, easy-to-prepare, dry-format feed, or ready to use super-concentrated liquid. Both options help maximize performance without compromise.
Ultimate flexibility through super-concentration
The EfficientFeed + Supplements are designed with the flexibility to super-concentrate chemically defined components up to 3X (i.e., 200 g/L) of original levels while remaining pH-neutral. This is accomplished with nutrient delivery technology that allows reconstitution without pH adjustments (i.e., just add water). By adding different amounts of water during reconstitution, you can concentrate these supplements 2X, or up to 3X.

No more compromise
Until now, traditional fed-batch bioreactor space necessitated a compromise: the amount of complete feeding supplements one could add meant a trade-off between initial working volume and feeding space (dilution factor).
Today, EfficientFeed + Supplements empower you to deliver up to 200 g/L of needed nutrients in a complete, super-concentrated, pH-neutral feed. The reduction in required feeding space provides you with three ways to optimize your bioreactor output for every run:

Gibco EfficientFeed + Supplements are designed to deliver the same 2- to 5-fold increases in titer possible with original EfficientFeed supplements, plus the flexibility to be super-concentrated up to 3X (or 200 g/L) of original levels while remaining pH-neutral and chemically defined.
In Figure 1, we demonstrate an improvement in titer with super-concentrated EfficientFeed C+ supplement.

Gibco EfficientFeed+ Supplements represent an improved version of earlier formulations. The result is improved titers relative to supplements from other vendors.
Figure 2 illustrates how titer comparisons for cell cultures and demonstrate how well EfficientFeed+ Supplements perform. A customer completed a head-to-head comparison in fed-batch culture of a DG44 cell line expressing IgG and demonstrated superior titers over approximately 20 days (peak titers at 80% harvest viability). In that comparison, EfficientFeed + Supplements demonstrated performance up to 139% better than those from other suppliers.
Reliable product quality
Figure 3 shows how product quality profiles remain consistent whether increasing feeding percentage or when switching from the original Efficientfeed formulation to the EfficientFeed+ Supplements. These improved formulations allow you to increase your bioreactor’s working volume. Feed more and achieve higher titers without sacrificing product quality.
GibcoAdvanced Granulation Technology (AGT) or liquid formats support process scale-up
AGT and liquid formats for EfficientFeed+ Supplements showed consistent performance in growth and titer. This makes it easy to switch between the two formats as you scale-up your process.
Figures 4 and 5 demonstrate that AGT and liquid formats have comparable performance.

Simple preparation helps reduce risk
Our AGT dry media format provides ease-of-use while helping you reduce risk by minimizing the numerous steps and adjustments previously required to prepare conventional media.
Storage of reconstituted liquid also reduces risk
Reconstituted EfficientFeed+ Supplements can be stored at room temperature (in the dark) for the period of a typical fed-batch bioreactor run. Making just one closed-system connection per bioreactor run reduces the opportunities for an error that could lead to contamination.
