Our cold storage lab equipment is designed and manufactured with environmental sustainability in mind.

By using green refrigerants, designing for energy efficiency and building our products with recyclable materials whenever possible, we seek to protect the environment and help others do the same. Many of our products are ENERGY STAR® certified and carry the My Green Lab ACT label to provide clear, third-party verified information about the environmental impact of our equipment. We are committed to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and are continuously investing in minimizing the environmental impact of our products and packaging—designing from the bottom up to help protect the planet.

Climate

As the world leader in serving science, Thermo Fisher Scientific supports the urgent calls for action from scientists around the world to address climate change. We have committed to becoming net-zero by 2050 and joined the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign led by the Science Based Targets initiative, aligning our goals with the Paris Agreement. This commitment expands on our near-term targets for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, which are aligned with a 1.5°C trajectory.

Product design

Across Thermo Fisher Scientific, we design our products with the environment in mind and seek new ways to provide our customers with the means to achieve greater environmental stewardship.

We believe the biggest opportunity to reduce a product’s environmental impact is early in the design process. Below are some of the key steps we have taken to reduce the environmental impact of our cold storage products.

1.    Less hazardous: Natural refrigerants and green foam

In 2015 we committed to a more sustainable future by supporting U.S. White House efforts to transition to greener refrigerants.

– We moved 99% of our cold storage made in US/EU to Low Global Warming Potential (GWP) Hydrocarbon Refrigerants
– Implemented Water Blown and greener insulation that have 0 GWP and Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP).

2.   Less waste: Zero waste facility and recycled material

The Asheville NC facility, where many cold storage products are manufactured, is a zero waste to landfill site and our lab freezers are manufactured with 60–70% recycled steel.

3.    More energy efficient: Low energy and ENERGY STAR certified

HDI-Energystar-270x195

With +200 certified products, our cold storage lab equipment consists of the largest catalog of ENERGY STAR–certified freezer solutions on the market.

ENERGY STARis a government-backed (US) symbol for energy efficiency, providing simple, credible and unbiased information that consumers and businesses can rely on to make informed decisions on products.

4.    Responsibly packaged: Recycled material and localised production

We use locally sourced, and 100%-by-weight recycled corrugate packaging, but packaging is only 1 part of the shipping equation.

Regionalized production of our Ultra-Low Freezers enable us to reduce our total CO2 emissions from shipping.

5.    Extended life: long life and recyclable

We back our TSX Ultra Low Freezers with a 12 Year Warranty- 2 Years longer than the typical Ultra Low Freezer life span which equals: Less units produced, less units shipped, and less units disposed every year.

When disposal is needed, we offer Green Recyclable Programs to help ensure proper disposal of older units. Contact us to learn more ›

To help make it easier to determine our greener alternative products, we have included a leaf symbol on those specific product pages.

Transparency

With +150 cold storage products bearing the ACT label, the largest catalog on the market, we aim to provide the transparency necessary to enable you to make informed purchasing decisions, based on environmental sustainability.
