A sub-class of pathogenic microbes exhibit drastically increased biomass accumulation when supplemented with short chain fatty acids (SCFAs). This phenomenon was probed via untargeted stable isotope resolved untargeted metabolomics leveraging Thermo Scientific Compound Discoverer software. Metabolites presenting fold changes as well as downstream isotopic enrichment from a 13C2 acetate substrate were used to inform on this unusual phenomenon and increase our understanding of the microbe’s pathogenic mechanism.
