The fact that many companies are returning to attend the second edition of the China International Import Expo reflects how the event represents the vast growth opportunities China has to offer, according to senior executives from multinational corporations.

Having benefitted from the inaugural expo last year, foreign businesses have spared no efforts in prioritizing their strategies in accordance with the Chinese government's agenda of pursuing innovation and a high quality of life.

"The CIIE is a great opportunity for China to maximize its global influence as well as for companies to exhibit their capabilities and cutting-edge products," said Tony Acciarito, China president of Thermo Fisher Scientific, a United States-headquartered science service company.

"We were very impressed by the amount of attention we received during the first CIIE," Acciarito said. "It's important to show our commitment to China - that we are here to stay and will continue our investment as China continues to be one of our most promising markets worldwide."

During the exhibition in November, Thermo Fisher Scientific will present over 40 cutting-edge products, 10 of which will be making their debut in China, across four segments: healthcare and precision medicine, bio pharma and biologics, food safety and environmental protection.

"Our goal is to continue to stay aligned with government priorities, such as healthcare and environmental protection," he said.

Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccine arm of healthcare giant Sanofi, captured the spotlight last year after launching two innovative vaccines during the CIIE, said the company's China general manager Mike Zhang.

"Apart from bringing new vaccines, the company is expected to announce several strategic partnerships with Chinese entities to provide integrated smart vaccination solutions using the likes of big data and artificial intelligence," he said.

"We are willing to bring the world's best vaccines and most innovative solutions to China, to help fulfill the 'Healthy China 2030' vision."

Meanwhile, cosmetics giant L'Oreal Group is planning to offer online-to-offline interactions during this year's CIIE.

"The first CIIE reinforced our confidence in China's business environment policies and allowed us to see the country's continuously growing domestic market demand. It was like conducting large-scale consumer research," said Fabrice Megarbane, chief executive officer of L'Oreal China.

The company is also confident of targeting the "Chinese appetite" more precisely this time around, Megarbane noted, referring to the demand for products related to a good lifestyle.

"As a German science and technology company, we are proud to be participating in the first CIIE, which serves as an excellent platform to comprehensively showcase our innovative products," said Tore Prang, executive vice-president of Heraeus Group.

Prang said this year's focus will be on raising the efficiency of 5G telecommunications technologies and electric vehicles, both of which are in line with strategic emerging sectors that China aims to develop.

Dynaudio, a professional HiFi speaker brand, will participate in the second CIIE. Aaron Yang, marketing manager of Dynaudio Shanghai Co Ltd, said the event caters to local market needs and has a global vision.

"By showcasing a wide range of new offerings like HiFi speakers, professional monitoring products, wireless intelligent audio products, as well as custom installation cinema products, we aim to help more Chinese consumers experience a high-quality lifestyle and contribute to the consumption upgrade of the Chinese market," Yang added.
