Transferring methods between systems and labs is made easier with Thermo Scientific HPLC and UHPLC systems. Built-in features of select systems facilitate method transfer by including an adjustable system gradient delay volume, multiple column thermostatting modes and automated sample in-needle dilution, all of which are easily adjusted using the Chromeleon CDS software interface. Our method transfer tools allow you to duplicate other HPLC vendors’ system settings to more easily replicate methods, such as those from a Waters™ Alliance™ HPLC system, Agilent™ 1260 Infinity™ LC system and Shimadzu™ Nexera-i™ system to a Vanquish Core HPLC system.
Thermo Scientific SmartFlow technology in Thermo Scientific Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC pumps automatically compensates for changing eluent compressibility to deliver the precise performance and flexibility for reproducible separations. This technology ensures highly accurate and precise flows, independent of eluent composition and backpressure.
Additionally, SmartStroke technology in the Thermo Scientific Vanquish Horizon binary pump can virtually eliminate the TFA baseline ripples even with small mixer volumes for lower gradient delay volume (GDV) and higher sensitivity.
Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC autosamplers feature Thermo Scientific SmartInject technology, which reduces the pressure drop associated with sample injection. There are significant benefits to dampening the impact of the injection shock. It minimizes pressure shocks to the column bed, which extends the lifetime of the column and improves quantification of early eluting compounds, resulting in higher retention time precision.
Certain Thermo Scientific HPLC and UHPLC systems allow users to set automated System Health Checks to prevent issues before they impact an analysis run. Quick diagnosis of the system reduces downtime and avoids costly sample re-runs. Select systems also feature built-in video guides to help you perform routine maintenance.
For select Thermo Scientific Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC systems, the optional interactive Thermo Scientific Vanquish User Interface lets you view system health, performance, and equilibration status at a glance.
Most Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC systems are compatible with the Thermo Scientific Vanquish Solvent Monitor, which accurately measures the liquid levels in each solvent channel and the waste container to streamline your Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). As part of the sequence ready check, the system automatically warns you if there is not enough eluent or waste capacity to complete the sample sequence, preventing system and column damage and ensuring ‘right the first time’ results.
Thermo Scientific Chromeleon Chromatography Data System (CDS) is the recommended software to control Thermo Scientific HPLC and UHPLC systems. When purchasing a new HPLC or UHPLC system, purchase price is only one consideration. The projected lifetime cost to run and maintain the system may be overlooked.
Calculation of lifetime costs for the system should factor in:
Consideration | Direct effect |
---|---|
Sample throughput | Analyze more samples, lower cost per sample. Increased sample revenue. |
Ease-of-use | Faster training of new operators. Simplified method transfer for laboratory flexibility and efficiency. |
Reliability | Reduced downtime for repairs or maintenance. Fewer sample re-runs. |
Compliance | Minimal observations protect company reputation and reduce investigation workload. |
Technology that improves return on investment (ROI) |
|
The Vanquish UHPLC platform provides lower service and maintenance costs, compared to equivalent HPLC systems, over the lifetime of the instrument, providing an exceptional improvement in total cost of ownership with long term savings.

Enabling our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer is at the heart of every colleague at Thermo Fisher Scientific. And thanks to our leadership, we have an actionable science-based plan for the company to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Our most outstanding climate-friendly achievements to date center around the Germering, Germany plant where we develop and manufacture our Vanquish LC Systems. In fact, this location is our first site fully powered by renewable energy!
We aim to accomplish much more than just clean energy at a single site, as you can see in our net-zero development plan and our HPLC sustainability fact sheet.
