Family of Thermo Scientific DynaDrive Single-Use Bioreactors with capacities of 5,000 L, 3,000 L, 500 L, and 50 L.

Dynamic cell culture performance with right sizing flexibility

With a continued focus on large-scale monoclonal antibody production, and tremendous growth of gene therapy and viral vector vaccines, companies are facing the decision on how to scale manufacturing processes efficiently. The Thermo Scientific DynaDrive Single-Use Bioreactor (S.U.B.) is the latest advancement based on our history of proven single-use innovation, offering superior performance to accommodate volumes from pilot to production.

Substitute high costs for high performance with the DynaDrive S.U.B.

Performance:

  • Improved turndown ratio:
    • Uniquely designed to allow mixing at very low volumes
    • 10:1 for the 50 L S.U.B. and 20:1 for the 500 L S.U.B.
    • Seed directly from flasks into S.U.B.
  • Optimized for modern cell culture processes, accommodating high power input per volume (PIV) and volumetric mass transfer performance (measured by kLa)
    • Easily capable of supporting viable cell densities of >100 million cells/mL
    • Scaled PIV and kLa for various terminal volumes
    • Characterized linear kLa performance
  • Considerable savings in OPEX due to reduced seed-train and scale-up processes
    • Reduced steps, labor and documentation required for the seed train processes
    • Minimized contamination risks
    • Improved facility footprint space utilization

Bold hardware design:

  • Ergonomic unit design for easy, consistent, and reliable BPC loading and deployment
  • Cutouts in hardware allow for unique customization and ease of use/access to ports
  • New cubical geometry and design improves mixing by providing baffles in corners and better BPC fit
  • Lower probe cutouts on vessel for accurate sensing of pH, DO, and temperature
  • Bottom-jacketed vessel for better heat transfer and temperature control at lower volumes
  • Leveraging higher in-vessel turndown ratios to run multiple stages in a single bioreactor can reduce the number of bags loaded and unloaded as well as the number of bioreactors needed overall in the facility.
  • Available in 50 L, 500 L, 3,000 L, and 5,000 L providing efficiency in manufacturing with improved mass transfer and mixing; this allows for the use of the same technology over a larger range of facility networks thus simplifying process transfers from research and development to commercial manufacturing phases.

Read Application Note

  • The DynaDrive S.U.B. has been designed specifically to increase power input per volume (PIV). The flexible drive train includes multiple impellers that provide more PIV while still maintaining reasonable RPM and tip speeds. The unique drive train is also flexible, which allows the BPC to be folded to minimize the size of packaging and improve BPC deployment and disassembly.
  • A >10:1 turndown ratio allows you to optimize the seed train which helps reduce labor and risk while improving facility space utilization. With this turndown ratio, you can transfer highly concentrated cells directly from cell culture flasks to the bioreactor.
