Initially considered as genomic “junk”, long noncoding RNAs have gained attention as critical regulators of coding RNA and alternative splicing. LncRNAs have been associated with tumorigenesis, tumor progression and metastasis, thus emerging as a new class of promising cancer biomarkers and targets for therapeutic agents.
