Why pair qPCR with culture for your research?

Real-time PCR (qPCR) is a powerful tool for wound pathogen research when paired with culture results. Though more labor- and time-intensive, culture remains to be a widely used technique for identifying the cause of an infection. However, qPCR targets genetic material from pathogens, meaning it does not require the growth of material and does not rely on any subjective measures for assessment. Through its amplification process, qPCR can detect small amounts of bacteria that might be missed through culture and provide a more complete picture of the wound in real time.

Key features:

  • Faster time-to-results (5 hours or less)
  • Higher sensitivity and specificity
  • Multiple-pathogen testing using the same sample
  • Can detect polymicrobial infections and slow growing anaerobic species
  • Antibiotic resistance gene (ABR) target detection can help in understanding future treatment decisions

Available testing formats

Multiple formats for wound pathogen detection and antibiotic resistance research solutions are available to fit your laboratory needs. Broad panels are available on TaqMan Array Cards or OpenArray plates for low or high throughput needs. Small panel, custom solutions are available in single-tube assays and 96- or 384-well plates.

Single-Tube Assays
