Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are a common source of genetic variation within genomic DNA and typically confer a single nucleotide difference within a specific gene locus, resulting in two alleles of the gene. SNPs within the coding or regulatory regions of a gene can affect function, or more commonly serve as biological markers for inheritance of specific loci.

Leverage the power of MGB for your genotyping studies
Our MGB probes found in every TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assay offer industry-leading specificity and sensitivity and have long been considered the gold standard in qPCR. The MGB moiety at the 3ʹ end of the probe increases the melting temperature (Tm) of the probe and stabilizes probe–template hybrids. This means that TaqMan MGB probes can be significantly shorter than traditional probes, providing maximal assay design flexibility and superior discrimination between alleles differing by just one nucleotide.
