Avian Influenza A (H5N8) Virus
Outbreaks of Avian Influenza (H5N8) have been detected in multiple countries across Europe. The strains are similar to Korean strains found earlier in the year and were potentially spread by migrating wild birds. H5N8 has never been detected in humans, but has led to the culling of millions of farm birds. High Path Avian Influenza can lead to significant mortality in domestic poultry and is often not preceded by any noticeable signs of infection. There is no concern to humans via poultry meat or eggs. However, it can have significant economic impacts on Poultry production.
