Take a time and cost saving virtual test drive

With Head Acoustics NVH simulation tools, you experience your data in form of virtual test drives, thus speeding up the development processes. Auralise transfer path analyses based on test bench data or evaluate the NVH performance of a system even before components and assemblies can be physically combined.

  • Time saving: Accelerated development process by acoustic assessments in early development stages
  • Cost savings: Virtual test drives for assessing NVH performance before components and assemblies are physically present or combinable
  • Data preparation: Use simulated data (CAE) and measured data & results from binaural transfer path analyses
  • High-end & true-to-life: Combination of binaural technologies, calibrated multi-modal playback, advanced auralization algorithms and interactive sound design tools makes PreSense a powerful tool

NVH simulator

PreSense – Interactive NVH simulator for virtual engineering & prototyping

Save expensive prototypes by virtual test drives: With PreSense, our NVH simulator, users experience vehicle acoustics before it is even possible to combine all the individual components and assemblies physically. PreSense uses simulation data (CAE), measurement data and results from binaural transfer path analyses to create an interactive acoustic vehicle simulation.

Furthermore, PreSense can also be used as an interactive sound design studio for ASD.

The driver acts and behaves like driving a real vehicle while a driving model calculates vehicle speed, engine speed(s) and load(s). The NVH simulator auralises the corresponding sounds, e.g. from powertrain, tire/road and wind in real time.

Playback systems

HXB PreSense playback system for PreSense

HXB PreSense is the ideal playback hardware for the interactive NVH driving simulator PreSense.

Delays between driver interaction and acoustic output are not noticeable thanks to its calibrated low latency playback. Two independently equalized headphone connectors ensure binaural and aurally accurate playback via connected headphones. The integrated CAN FD interface supports CAN (ISO 11898-2) as well as CAN FD and enables real-time transfer of CAN (FD) data from a vehicle to the simulation software PreSense. This allows for controlling various operating states within the simulation by real-time data from the vehicle, such as engine rpm, speed, throttle position, gear selection and so on. Additional playback systems, such as labO2/-V1 or labP2/-V1, can easily be integrated into the playback system, enabling further headphones or shakers.

SoundSeat – Multimodal playback system for vehicle interior noise

In combination with the SoundSeat, the PreSense NVH simulator can be operated like a real vehicle. The user accelerates, brakes and shifts gears while the system adapts sounds and vibrations to the driving situation in real time. Shakers realise realistic steering wheel and seat vibrations while a large screen provides an overall visual impression of the driving situation.

Compared to headphone-only playback, authenticity is greatly enhanced when the NVH simulation is experienced in a realistic environment and while being interactively controlled. Instead of having to listen to prefabricated stimuli on an office chair in a listening studio, the test person sits as if in the vehicle and is allowed to influence the sound himself. The vibrations of the steering wheel and seat increase the immersion.

This context greatly increases the validity of the assessment. The goal is that the driver feels the same perception as in the real car. Even without interactive driving, the SoundSeat is also suitable for passive playback in a vehicle context, e.g. for assessing and comparing noise and vibration recordings or for quality control.

TPA analysis software

PROGNO[I]SE – Software for transfer path analysis and synthesis

PROGNO[I]SE is a software program for binaural transfer path analysis and synthesis (BTPA/BTPS). With the help of transfer path analysis, the influences of individual sound paths and the general sound quality of vehicles, machinery and other products can not only be predicted by means of figures and graphics, but also be made binaurally audible.

Binaural recording and playback technology ensures the best possible realistic sound playback. Different methods are used depending on the application.
