Featuring proven reliability and leadership through innovation

Thermo Scientific Biological Safety Cabinets (BSCs) are products of decades of experience in manufacturing and a deep understanding of our customers’ needs.  Built on trust, our BSCs deliver advancements in safety, functionality, usability and user friendliness that make them welcomed additions to any lab.  Explore the wealth of features available on your next and best biological safety cabinet.

Advanced airflow design

All Class II biological safety cabinets use filters and controlled airflows to capture contamination. Our patented, advanced airflow design delivers another level of confidence in safety through intelligent, automatic and continual adjusting of airflow to maintain optimal protection. This SmartFlow design uses dual motors with proprietary control systems which continually balances inflow and downflow for more reliable contaminant control and eliminates the need for a mechanical damper. The system also continually adjusts fan speed to ensure optimal airflow velocity, automatically compensating for resistance as filters become loaded with particulates over time.

Reliable safety

Thermo Scientific BSCs are designed and engineered to be more than just safe; we deliver unparalleled confidence in the protection of people, products and the environment. Our products are rich in fail-safe features to address even the most unlikely “what-if” scenarios that could occur in the lab. We employ advanced technology to continually monitor operational safety conditions so that you can focus on your work free of worry about your protection. Safety is best when it's always there and doesn’t require you to think about it. And all biological safety cabinets are third party validated to meet the industry’s most rigorous standards.

Thermo Scientific biosafety cabinets are built to the highest standards for quality, safety and performance. We submit our products to rigorous testing, certification and validation organizations worldwide.

Safety self-check

System self-checks help to ensure safe operating conditions and alert users to potential concerns in real time. Whether using a touchscreen equipped model (as shown here) or digital displays with keys and LED indicators, the system monitors and communicates operational parameters continuously.

User friendly

Our biological safety cabinets are built for the people who use them. While safety is always the first priority, a close second is user friendliness. That’s because a system that is difficult to use or uncomfortable is less safe. Our systems are loaded with ergonomic design touches, thoughtful convenience details and people-oriented features that make using them a relative joy in the lab.

Comfort and ergonomics

Our biological safety cabinets are designed with user comfort in mind, with ergonomic arm rests, eye level control panels, height adjustments, counterbalanced or motorized sash operations, and well-conceived work spaces, making them the preferred choice for lab workers worldwide.

We offer a range of accessories for our biological safety cabinets to support your most demanding users and to improve the functionality and safety of workspaces in the lab.

Easy to clean

Keeping your biological safety cabinet clean is critical to lab safety, so we’ve made it easy to do. Choose from several cabinet interiors, including type 304 or type 316 stainless steel, and SmartCoat treated for non-reflective, chemically resistant interiors. Work surfaces can be flat for easy cleaning or indented for containment of larger spills onto the work surface.

Our innovative Thermo Scientific SmartClean Plus design allows for easy access to the interior by simply opening the entire front sash structure which is hinged and supported by gas struts. Our patented manually operated sliding sash design (SmartClean) can be extend below the front opening, allowing access to otherwise hard-to-reach upper portions of the sample chamber and inside the window itself.

Finally, our patented crossbeam, self-adjusting UV lighting system is able to automatically disinfects the entire cabinet interior when not in use.

Auto-adjusting crossbeam UV disinfection lighting

For those who routinely employ UV germicidal light to their work surface at the end of the workday, we provide a time adjustable functionality to automatically shut off the light at the desired interval to preserve bulb life. Our exclusive self-adjusting exposure capability enables reproducible germicidal effectiveness with every use, even as the UV light tube ages, by helping to ensure consistent exposure to protect your important work. The UV function is protected by a safety interlock to cease operation if the window is opened.

Thoughtful convenience

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. Our customers appreciate the day-to-day usability and convenience of our safety cabinets due, in large part, to the innovative touches included. Our Thermo Scientific SmartPort Convenience provides a clean and safe approach to incorporating vacuum tubing and cables through the double side walls of the biological safety cabinet, for improved organization and work efficiency. The side wall plenum is under negative pressure preventing the possibility of leakage in or out of the BSC during operation.

Convenient lighting and ports for optimal usability

Thoughtfully placed interior lighting, ports and electrical sockets dramatically increase usability and functionality of our cabinets. These little details can make all the difference user satisfaction and help to make our biosafety cabinets their preferred choice.

Intuitive controls

The cabinet control is positioned to be always in view and within easy reach of the user whether sitting or standing.  Digital displays are clear, bright and use simple to understand icons, controls and alerts are intuitive and easy to use.

Alarms help keep you and your work safe

Our systems continually monitor operational conditions, providing real-time communications to users through an easy-to-understand digital display. Alerts and alarms notify users of sub-optimal performance to help ensure ongoing safety.

Connectivity

Through our Thermo Fisher Connect Platform, our biological safety cabinets are enabled with cloud based-based connectivity,* including remote equipment monitoring, secure data storage, scientific analysis apps and collaboration tools. This enables customers to check the BSC status in real time and be alerted to important issues via alarms and alerts.

The remote app adds a further dimension of visibility for Lab Managers and Facility Managers who can analyze historical data, manage service requirements and measure product utilization. The Thermo Scientific Herasafe and Maxisafe 2030i models come with this embedded capability to provide cloud-based connectivity, while other models can be equipped with this capability by adding wireless monitoring devices.

Check BSC status remotely

While users can see alarms/alerts first-hand via the touchscreen interface and respond accordingly, the remote app adds another dimension of visibility and control for Lab Managers, and Facility Managers who can access real-time equipment status remotely.

Monitor equipment status from the cloud

Users, managers and support teams can access connectivity enabled BSC information remotely to check operational status, performance data and more, giving exceptional insight and management control of your equipment.

Analyze usage data

Connected devices deliver information in a way that helps your organization get a better return on your equipment investment.  With access to historical usage and performance data, maintenance requirements and detailed operational information, your lab can increase efficiency, equipment longevity and utilization.

Easily access detailed equipment data to maximize efficiency

Remotely access equipment specific data such as operating hours, maintenance and certification timing, and energy consumption.

Alerts and reminders

Your connected BSC stays in communication with you so that your team is aware of any issues that need to be addressed, whether they are immediate safety concerns or forward-looking maintenance related items.

Dashboard and push notifications

Use the dashboard to easily access alerts, alarms, event logs from anywhere for regular operation and maintenance control, while push notifications notify you of immediate and pending issues when you’re not logged in.

Energy efficiency

We are committed to designing our products with the environment in mind and enabling our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. Our biological safety cabinets equipped with proprietary airflow design and energy-efficient DC motors can reduce energy consumption by up to 68% compared to other comparable technologies. This optimized airflow has the added benefit of extending the filter life. Our BSCs include many other thoughtful energy efficiency features such as Stand-by Mode that automatically reduces blower speed when the window is closed. Similarly, automated UV light disinfection optimizes bulb life and energy consumption. The impact of these innovative design features produces an annual reduction of up to 2,405 kW-hr of energy consumption (1.7 tons CO2 equivalents) per unit, lower maintenance requirements and less consumable waste.
