Fluorescence measurement

Fluorescence measurement for DNA quantification offers higher sensitivity and specificity compared to UV absorbance. We offer two kinds of fluorescence-based assays for DNA quantification: Qubit DNA Assays Kits and Quant-iT DNA Assays Kits. Find the optimal kit based on your throughput needs and instrument availability.

Qubit DNA Assay Kits

Qubit DNA assay kits are broadly categorized as double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) assays or single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) assays. These assays are designed to work with Qubit fluorometers.

UV-Vis measurement

UV-Vis absorbance is a commonly used method for routine DNA quantification. It is simple and convenient to use as no sample preparation, dyes, or standards are required.

NanoDrop Spectrophotometers use UV absorbance measurement and allow you to quantify and quality DNA, RNA, and protein samples in seconds with 1–2 µL of sample volume.

The NanoDrop instruments require no assay kits, but you may be able to increase your productivity using a kit.

Need more information?

Quantification of the DNA in your sample is not a required step in the PCR workflow, but it can save you time by helping to ensure that your downstream processing is more successful. Understanding if you have sufficient nucleic acid in your sample prior to proceeding can help prevent costly delays and wasted effort as you move forward.

There are two optical technologies commonly used to quantify nucleic acids: UV-Vis measurement and fluorescence measurement. Learn more about DNA quantification techniques and find the right technology for your sample, workflow, and throughput.
