See our selection of lipid-binding and lipoprotein-binding microplates to maximize passive adsorption and coating capacity of hydrophobic biomolecules for immunoassay techniques.
These polystyrene surfaces are less polar with high affinity to molecules of a more hydrophobic nature. The surfaces are typically used for the adsorption of molecules such as lipid-rich biomolecules and non-protein antigens including viral antigens or lipoproteins. On the surface, no hindrance exists for a stable hydrophobic adsorption of hydrophobic molecules, except that they may not be applicable in purely aqueous medium, therefore addition of or substitution with detergent or organic solvents (e.g. ethanol or hexane) may be needed. With these surfaces the molecules must come very close to the surface to establish hydrophobic bonds and one must anticipate more demanding incubation conditions, such as high reactant concentration, longer duration, higher temperature, and (more) agitation to obtain adsorption efficiency.
