This is the fourth episode of our foundational series, Back to Basics. This episode describes antibodies and possible immune responses against HLA proteins. We will describe antibody function, morphology, and development, and specific concepts relevant to anti-HLA antibodies including PRA, DSA, cross-reactive groups (CREGs), epitopes, eplets, and interfering factors. Finally, we will describe the effects of antibody-mediated and cellular immune responses that may occur in both solid organ and bone marrow/stem cell transplantation.
