XPS provides quantitative information at a sample’s near-surface region. There are cases where knowledge of the hydrogen concentration is essential for development of technologies such as hydrogen storage materials in fuel cells.
While it is not possible to quantify hydrogen in an XPS analysis, the Thermo Scientific™ ESCALAB™ Xi+ XPS Microprobe enables researchers to quantity hydrogen in organic and inorganic compounds within a few nanometers of the surface of a sample using reflection electron energy loss spectroscopy (REELS).
