Cryo-EM software solutions

Simplify your cryo-TEM acquisition and analyses with innovative software solutions. Each solution features user-friendly interfaces that enable intelligent and automated cryo-TEM data acquisition and analysis to streamline workflows for multiple cryo-TEM methods, including single particle analysis, cryo-tomography, and MicroED.

CryoFlow Software

Thermo Scientific CryoFlow Software, our paperless cryo-EM data management solution, optimizes cryo-EM workflows by helping you generate protein structures using single particle analysis (SPA) and perform cellular structural analysis using cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). Its modular organization provides a single convenient location to track experiments through individual steps in SPA and cryo-ET workflows.

Smart EPU Software

Thermo Scientific Smart EPU Software is an embedded software for single particle acquisition. Its simplified user interface, advanced automation, and screening capabilities allow for straightforward planning and execution of experiments.

Tomography 5 Software

Thermo Scientific Tomography 5 Software enables acquisition of 3D data, even on your most challenging vitrified samples. Its user-friendly interface enables both experienced and new users to jump-start their tomography data acquisition. Tomography Software and Tomo Live Software are supported on the Krios, and Glacios cryo-TEMs.

EPU-D Software

Thermo Scientific EPU-D Software is electron diffraction acquisition software. It enables quick switching between imaging and diffraction, guides optimal low-dose setup, and drives the continuous tilt needed for data collection.

Embedded CryoSPARC Live

Embedded CryoSPARC Live significantly shortens time to results by providing real-time, multi-dimensional feedback on sample quality and TEM settings for single particle analysis.

Amira Software

Thermo Scientific Amira Software is a 2D–5D solution for visualizing and analyzing data from many image modalities, including Optical and Electron Microscopy, CT, MRI and other imaging techniques.

Selectris and Selectris X Imaging Filters

Designed for stability and speed, Thermo Scientific Selectris and Selectris X Imaging Filters are post-column imaging filters that improve the contrast of TEM images, resulting in high-resolution structures up to atomic resolution. Paired with the latest generation Thermo Scientific Falcon 4i Direct Electron Detector, Selectris Filters enable you to obtain high-resolution structures quickly, revealing new biological insights. To further increase the productivity and ease of use of your cryo-EM research, these filters are fully integrated into Thermo Scientific EPU SoftwareThermo Scientific Tomography Software, and instrument operation software.

Falcon 4i Direct Electron Detector

The Thermo Scientific Falcon 4i Direct Electron Detector, with optical and throughput enhancement modes in combination with a more stable stage, accelerates automated data acquisition. Aberration-free image shift (AFIS) functionality uses image beam shifts, eliminating the need to perform mechanical stage movements. Fringe-free imaging (FFI) ensures the beam is only collecting data on usable parts of the sample, improving the quality of the results. When configured with the Selectris X Imaging Filter, the capability to use a very stable narrow slit width (<10 eV) provides an additional boost in contrast for single particle cryo-EM and cryo-ET, improving resolution and obtaining results faster with less data to maximize your resolution efforts.

Ceta-D Camera

The Thermo Scientific Ceta-D Camera is a scintillator-based camera optimized for low-dose diffraction data collection. It is ideal for working with dose-sensitive materials, such as proteins, pharmaceutical molecules, and organic materials. The camera’s high sensitivity allows for reliable detection of high-resolution, low-intensity diffraction peaks. Its high signal-to-noise ratio allows for accurate measurement of the integrated peak intensity. Both of these elements are prerequisites for obtaining high-resolution structural information.

Ceta-M Camera

The Thermo Scientific Ceta-M Camera delivers sensitive and dynamic imaging with a large field of view. This unique combination follows the natural workflow in TEM imaging: from fast navigation to find the area of interest, to easy optimization of the image quality via optical adjustments, to the final result, a 4k × 4k image unrivaled in quality and detail.

Heat decontamination for cryo-TEM

Our solution for 60°C heat decontamination allows installation of the Thermo Scientific Krios Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscope (Cryo-TEM) in higher biosafety-level containment facilities (e.g. BSL-3). For these installations, we offer a 60°C heat decontamination solution consisting of both hardware and software to heat the interior of the microscope enclosure.

Looking to find a cryo-EM facility near you?

There are nearly 300 world-class cryo-EM facilities where you can advance your research by obtaining cryo-EM structures and proof-of-concept data using your own samples. Most facilities have an application form that will guide you through proposal requirements. Although these vary by facility, generally you can expect to submit a research proposal for independent scientific and technical evaluation based on:

  • Scientific background and project significance
  • Technical suitability and feasibility, including descriptions of the sample and sample quality

Individual facilities also offer different levels of service, which may include sample preparation, grid screening, and cryo-EM training.
