Rheological analysis of polymers

Polymers are used for a broad variety of applications such as casings, packaging and composite materials. For these applications polymers are processed at elevated temperatures in a molten state.

Due to their chemical structure and high molecular weight, polymers exhibit a complex flow and deformation behavior - showing both viscous and elastic properties. Knowing the viscoelastic properties of a polymeric material is therefore essential to optimize formulations and production processes.

Our portfolio of HAAKE rheometers is widely recognized for accuracy and ease of use in QC, product development and research environments. The instruments are designed to reliably measure the mechanical properties of polymers in different states, giving you the insight needed to enhance formulations and blends and to adapt processes to ensure the desired product properties.

HAAKE MARS Rotational Rheometer

Analyze the mechanical properties of polymers in their different states with the flexible and accomplished Thermo Scientific HAAKE MARS Rheometers. This rotational rheometer platform meets the demands of advanced QC and applied R&D labs for comprehensive polymer analysis.

Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis (DMTA)

For a fuller rheological characterization of polymeric materials, the HAAKE MARS 40/60 Rheometers can be accessorized to perform DMTA. Use the resulting data to identify characteristic phase transitions such as melting, crystallization or glass transition as well as determine final product performance and key properties such as stiffness, brittleness, damping or impact resistance.

Extensional Rheology

Extensional flow occurs during many technical processes such as spraying, filling, etc., related to polymer melts, film blowing, foam extrusion or fiber spinning. The Sentmanat Extensional Rheometer (SER) tool with the HAAKE MARS 40/60 Rheometers enable extensional testing of polymer films to optimize final product properties.

HAAKE PolyLab OS Modular Torque Rheometer

This flexible measuring mixer and extruder system provides comprehensive material characterization during the development of innovative polymer products. The modular torque rheometer can be connected to an interchangeable mixer, single-screw extruder, or conical and parallel twin-screw extruder.

Featured webinar: Applied Polymer Rheology

Polymer rheology deals with the investigation of the viscoelastic properties of polymeric materials in different states. This webinar will provide an overview of common rheological techniques for the investigation of solid and molten polymers. The manufacturing and application related information that can be gained from these tests will be discussed and rheometer configurations for the investigation of  polymers are presented.
