When siting the inlet system, it is best to first establish the instrument location and height within the air monitoring station (rack or table top). Avoid sampling locations with direct exposure to sunlight or that are in close proximity to a heating or air conditioning outlet. To reduce condensation in the sample tubing, Thermo Fisher Scientific strongly recommends that the user insulate the sample tube extensions with pipe insulation when operating the instrument in areas of high humidity. The sample line for the main channel should proceed in a straight, vertical line from the PM10 inlet and to the inlet of the unit.
Installation should always be followed by an acceptance test to ensure the best quality data or instrument calibration as described in the “Calibration” chapter of the instrument's user manual*.
Site Criteria
• 40 CFR Part 58 covers U.S. EPA requirements
• General placement spacing from obstacle must be at least 2x the height of the obstacle
• Inlet 2 to 7 meters above the ground
• Unrestrictive air flow
• Co-location: inlets at least 2 meters apart but not more than 4 meters of each other
• Away from exhaust vents and flues
