The Thermo Scientific Model 410i Carbon Dioxide Gas Analyzer continuously monitors carbon dioxide (CO2) in ambient or source emissions. The Model 410i is available and compatible with either dilution or straight extractive systems. Dilution systems that employ CO2 have shown to be more reliable than dry extractive CEMS systems. Consider these 5 tips and tricks when operating a Thermo Scientific Model 410i Carbon Dioxide Gas Analyzer:
Sales and support for the Thermo Scientific C-series Gas Analyzers will be discontinued beginning August 1, 2015.
Increase the accuracy of your CO2 monitoring system with multi-point calibration. The Thermo Scientific Model 410i has a 3-point linearity calibration that has eliminated many failed calibrations and failed RATA tests since we introduced this feature more than 10 years ago. Additionally, you can use the software feature to eliminate risk. For more information, refer to Chapter 4, Pages 4-7 thru 4-9 in the Thermo Scientific 410i Carbon Dioxide Gas Analyzer Operator's Manual.
If you are in the market for a CO2 analyzer, it's helpful to know the Thermo Scientific Model 410i Carbon Dioxide Analyzer is available in a standard or a high-level range and the two versions are not interchangeable. The analyzer uses an internally stored calibration curve to accurately linearize the instrument output over any range up to a concentration of either 10,000 ppm (standard range) or 25% (high-level range). Additionally, when placing your order, be aware the letter D in the Model code stands for dilution, and letter E stands for extractive.
This analyzer utilizes advanced non-dispersive infrared technology (NDIR) with optically fixed bandpass interference filters and quantum detection to analyze concentrations of CO2. Technical Support strongly recommends having the IR source (Part # 7361) on hand to prevent CEMS availability downtime.

You must reset the S/R ratio setting after replacing the correlation filter wheel (Part # 101892-00) or when receiving the background above/below limit notification when calibrating the zero background on the unit. Refer to the Technical Bulletin for details to learn how to reset the S/R ratio and calibrate your detector.
Tune-ups and other preventive maintenance procedures are critical to keeping your gas analyzer up and running. Explore Thermo Scientific™ service solutions to maximize your uptime and your product's lifecycle.
A useful tip with dilution CEMS is that the dilution ratio can be definitively verified using a high level and low level gas. Example: 18% and 1,800 ppm values introduced both to the dilution probe and directly to the analyzer, respectively. At 100:1 ratio these will match if the dilution ratio is correct. CO2 is stable and high-quality gas standards are readily available at reasonable prices.
