A simple, all-in-one PCR solution designed to give you quantification and serotype results for the most common pathogenic Salmonella strains associated with meat and poultry matrices.
The SureCount Multiplex PCR Kit method is certified according to AOAC Performance Tested Methods (PTM) validation for poultry, beef and pork matrices. It is the only PCR assay to enable validated simultaneous quantification and typing of Salmonella species, S. Typhimurium and S. Enteritidis in a single test.
According to the AOAC-PTM validation study, the method is able to quantify 1 CFU per tested poultry rinses, raw meat and poultry samples (chicken carcass rinses, ground beef, ground pork and ground turkey). The method can effectively replace laborious, time- and resource-hungry enumeration methods such as the most probable number (MPN) technique and help to drive productivity up, and costs down, without compromising on safety.
a powerful method to inform your Salmonella control program for poultry, beef and pork
results for all targets available in around 8 hours
intuitive sample set-up and automated result interpretation
The Thermo Scientific SureCount Salmonella Multiplex PCR Kit method has recently been evaluated against the FSIS-MLG Chapter 4.11 and Appendix 2.05 reference methods for the isolation, identification and enumeration of Salmonella spp Enteritidis and Typhimurium, adhering to AOAC Appendix J guidelines with validated protocols and automated data analysis for meat (beef & pork) & poultry finished goods (AOAC PTM certification pending).
Custom protocols for in-process poultry carcass rinses and primary production samples are also available to ensure high accuracy in quantification.
The SureCount Salmonella Multiplex PCR Kit runs on the Applied Biosystems™ QuantStudio 5 Real-Time Food Safety PCR System with results automatically interpreted into the number of colony-forming units (CFU), using the Thermo Scientific™ RapidFinder™ Analysis Software v2.0 or later.

Ensuring food safety and quality is pivotal in the food industry. Salmonella, a persistent foodborne pathogen, poses a continuous threat to public health and business reputation. Recent advances in Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology are revolutionizing detection and management of this hazard. In this entry of Food for Thought, we discuss why PCR-based Salmonella screening makes economic sense, especially in light of the latest USDA regulation updates.
