The next generation in
punch system technology

The Card Processing Automation 200 (CPA200™) Semi-Automated Puncher is designed to process single-source DNA samples on filter paper in forensic and paternity laboratories.

The CPA200™ instrument combines ease of use with full-sample traceability and integrity to improve downstream results in low- and medium-throughput laboratories.

This instrument represents the next generation of semi-automated punch systems, and is specifically designed to meet the needs of forensic and paternity laboratories routinely processing single-source samples collected on filter paper. The CPA200™ Semi-Automated Puncher is a benchtop instrument tailored to the needs of low- and medium-throughput laboratories interested in improving efficiency while reducing the risk of errors and maximizing chain of custody.

The CPA200™ instrument offers:

  • High punching accuracy to help ensure the disk is delivered in the correct well, and to minimize cross-contamination
  • Flexibility to process a variety of card types
  • Traceability of samples through barcode reading and camera control
  • Integration into laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) through laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and customizable exportable reports

Specifications and features*

Supported card formats

All card formats are supported.
The CPA200™ instrument works with sample collection systems routinely used in forensic laboratories, including FTA Cards (Whatman) and Buccal DNA Collector devices (Bode), and with both indicating cards (saliva samples) and nonindicating cards (blood samples).

Possibility to reprocess cards that have already been punched.
Optimized protocol

Using NUCLEIC-CARD™ framed card with cleaning area:
1-spot format: 51 mm x 51 mm

2-spot format: 85 mm x 53 mm

Available punch sizes

The CPA200™ instrument has the following standard punch configurations:
1.2 mm*
2 mm
3 mm
4 mm

*All CPA 200™ instruments come with 1.2 mm punch sizes by default.

Sample punching position

Framed cards: the user selects the punching position using the external laser pointer. The system will record the coordinates and automatically punch in the selected position.

All other cards: The user selects the punching position using the internal laser pointer aimed at the punching site.

Cleaning procedure

Optimized protocol using NUCLEIC-CARD™ framed  card with cleaning area: the first cleaning punch is performed automatically; possibility to repeat for the same cleaning area using the external laser pointer.

All other cards: cleaning procedure can be performed using a cleaning card or on a blank area of the processing card using the external or the internal laser pointer.
