The GeneCatcher technology is a novel magnetic bead-based genomic DNA (gDNA) purification technology that is designed to work on a wide range of blood samples including archived or poorly stored blood samples. The GeneCatcher gDNA blood kits allow rapid and efficient extraction of genomic DNA from human blood—without the use of centrifugation (Figures 1 and 2). The purified DNA is suitable for use in the most sensitive downstream applications, including PCR and restriction enzyme digestion.

The GeneCatcher Purification System offers a method to purify gDNA from large volumes of blood that is robust and reproducible, ensuring complete sample recovery and integrity. The GeneCatcher gDNA Blood Kits allow rapid and efficient extraction of genomic DNA (gDNA) from human blood, including archived or poorly stored blood samples
(Figure 3). Genomic DNA is extracted from blood samples using the cost-effective, user-friendly magnetic bead–based GeneCatcher technology without the use of centrifugation.
Figure 3. Purification of gDNA from archived whole blood samples using the GeneCatcher gDNA Blood Kit. An 0.8% agarose gel used to evaluate gDNA extractions from archived whole blood samples (blood samples frozen >8 years). Blood samples were split into 2 equal aliquots, and gDNA was extracted using the GeneCatcher gDNA Blood Kit and a kit from competitor G. The GeneCatcher kit extractions employ magnetic beads, while competitor G’s kit uses a form of the traditional lysis and DNA precipitation method that has been shown to co-purify agents that are inhibitory to downstream applications. I = GeneCatcher technology extractions; G = competitor G extractions; L = 1Kb DNA Extension Ladder (Thermo Fisher Scientific), largest band 40 Kb.
GeneCatcher technology has been designed and optimized for scalable and automated genomic DNA isolation from blood samples. To obtain the best results with the GeneCatcher gDNA 0.3–1 mL Blood Kit, we recommend using the 24-well Magnetic Separator (Figure 4B). For the GeneCatcher gDNA 3–10 mL Blood Kit, we recommend the 50 mL tube Magnetic Separator (Figure 4B). These magnetic separators are compatible with the volumes used in the kit protocols and provide effective magnetic strength from neodymium magnets, which are aligned with plate wells or tubes, respectively.
