Overview

Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) columns are the ideal choice for monitoring aggregates.

Protein aggregation is a critical quality attribute (CQA) for monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) as well as adeno-associated viruses (AAVs). It plays a significant role in determining the overall quality of these biologics. To detect and quantify aggregates, size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) is the preferred method.

SEC operates on the steric-exclusion principle, where larger species are effectively excluded from the pores of the packing material and elute faster than smaller species. This principle allows for accurate determination of aggregate levels in a sample.
