The Thermo Scientific™ Model 55i Methane & Non-Methane Hydrocarbon Analyzer is a back-flush gas chromatography (GC) system designed for automated measurement of methane and non-methane hydrocarbons. Consider these 5 tips and tricks when using your Thermo Scientific Direct Methane & Non-Methane Hydrocarbon Analyzer, Model 55i:

How to retrieve a chromatogram

fast5-one

There are several methods to obtain a chromatogram from the Model 55i Methane & Non-Methane Hydrocarbon Analyzer. Many customers utilize the method described in the Technical Bulletin   Retrieving Raw Chromatogram Data from the Model 55i

Tips for lighting the FID

fast5-two

If you have problems lighting the FID, try these tips below:

  • Try lighting the unit with the FID exhaust line removed, if it lights, the line has a restriction.
  • Increase the fuel ignite pressure slightly and try an ignition sequence.
  • The Model 55i has a spare ignitor. Swap ignitors and try an ignition sequence.

Condition the column to reduce an elevated baseline

fast5-three

The Model 55i has a built in column conditioning routine that elevates the column temperature for eight hours to drive off any contaminates and condition the column. This can be found in the service menu of the Model 55i. Refer to the
Model 55i user manual if you have any questions on how to find this menu option.

Have spare parts on hand

fast5-four

Refer to Model 55i Spare Parts Kit when creating your spare-parts strategy If you have a different gas analyzer, visit our spare parts kit information page. To order parts call Customer Service at (866) 282-0430, option 1.

Take the guesswork out of gas cylinders

fast5-five

Facilities often use gas cylinders to feed instruments, such as those that feed the Model 55i. It can be difficult to determine how much time is left before the cylinder needs replacement. Use the gas cylinder calculator to determine how many days, hours, and even minutes of gas is remaining.
